The Best Days

A smile that was sincere,

An extended hand,

An invitation to sit with;

The first friendship.

The special tone of that greeting,

The sound of the bell,

Sudden stop of chattering voices

When the teacher walks in.

Jostling in the canteen's queue,

Trading pens and pencils,

Hurriedly finishing homework

That was given yesterday!

Sneaking snacks in the back bench,

Stealing glances at your crush,

Proudly walking up

When called to wipe the board.

Doodling in the back page,

Making tattoos with pens,

The most dreaded words

"Surprise Test!!"

How I wish to turn back time

To be there once more

To live through those days

That were the best of my life.
